Urban Forestry Commission

INFO: The Urban Forestry Commission advises the City in the use and maintenance of vegetation in public areas such as streets, roadsides, parkways, neighborhood and City parks, easements, public parking lots and traffic medians. The Commission's goal is to create, maintain and promote a safe, healthy and attractive urban forest for the enhancement of the natural environment of Reno.
MANDATES: Article XIII. Sec. 2.08.930. Sec. 8.32. 18.04.804. The Urban Forestry Commission advises the City in the use and maintenance of vegetation in public areas such as streets, roadsides, parkways, neighborhood and City parks, easements, public parking lots and traffic medians. The Commission's goal is to create, maintain and promote a safe, healthy and attractive urban forest for the enhancement of the natural environment of Reno.
Eleven regular members, who reside in and are registered voters in the City of Reno. Three of the regular members are members of the Recreation and Parks Commission who are interested and qualified in horticulture. One regular member is a landscape architect licensed in the State of Nevada. The remaining regular members represent the community at large. The superintendent of parks and the urban forester are non-voting members.
MEETINGS: The Commission meets on the third Wednesday of each month for approximately 1.5 hours.

INFO: The Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) is a regional compact to which Nevada belongs. Nevada's membership is designed to expand educational opportunities for its residents by providing access to a wider range of academic programs through student exchanges and regional initiatives, often at a reduced cost.
MANDATES: Authorized under NRS Chapter 396. Commissioners are appointed by the Governor. The commission facilitates regional collaboration to improve access to and excellence in higher education, including administering student exchange programs.
MEETINGS: The interstate commission meets twice a year. Nevada's representatives are appointed by the Governor of Nevada.
Western Interstate Nuclear Compact

The Compact's mission is to promote interstate cooperation on the regulation, development, and management of nuclear materials and low-level radioactive waste. Nevada's membership ensures the state has a voice in regional policy discussions.
MANDATES: Authorized under NRS 459.230. The state's representative is designated by the Governor. The compact facilitates the safe development, use, and disposal of radioactive materials and encourages a regional strategy for low-level waste management.

Women Veterans Advisory Committee

MISSION: Provide a platform to address youth issues by facilitating hands on resources and activities that inspire, empower, unify, and connect.

MANDATES: Parent or guardian permission is required if you are under the age of 18. Once your application is submitted, you will be contacted to provide a signed waiver. City Council chooses people between 14-22 years of age to serve. There are four elected officer positions that hold for one year. Elections are held every February during the monthly meeting. Subcommittees are open to all people ages 12-22 regardless of being on the council.
MEETINGS: Meetings were held monthly until April 2025.
