Community Health Worker training

Become a frontline public health worker to make a difference in your community and facilitate access to services and resources such as housing, food, education, employment, and healthcare. The WNC CHW program is approved on Nevada's Eligible Training Provider List (ETPL). Because of this approval, eligible participants can access federal funding through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) to cover training costs and other support.

Jay Kolbet-Clausell teaches one of three ETPL-approved CHW programs in the state and the only course offered in person in rural areas. Jay holds a Master's degree in Social Work and led the Community Health Worker Association in Nevada for three and a half years. With 20 years of experience in frontline interventions including disaster recovery, homelessness outreach, and CHW training, Jay also oversaw the training of most CHW trainers in the state of Nevada over the previous five years.

At Western Nevada College, we believe expense and experience should never stand in the way of a student's goals. Our Community Health Worker program is designed to help motivated students step confidently into the healthcare field with practical training, strong support, and scholarship funding to make it possible.
